Country: New Zealand

Summary

City Life is perhaps best described as Melrose Place down under. This truly remarkable New Zealand series lasted only one season and it still has a very small but dedicated following. Many so-called soaps from Australia and New Zealand are in fact just dull and realistic dramas - not at all larger than life. City Life, however, is one of the few exceptions and it is by far the best soap produced in New Zealand. The basic story focuses around a fancy apartment building called The Pile. A doctor by the name of Damon South (guest star Kevin Smith) is the owner of the building and he lives in the penthouse apartment. All his ten tenants are also his very best friends.

Rachel Blakely’s role

Her charecter’s name was Siobhan O'Halloran. She is a beautiful model, who works with Hugh (Peter Muller) on a catalogue. Gideon  (John Freeman)  shows up at the shoot, claiming to the models they are Hugh's business colleagues. He hits it off with one of the models, Siobhan, who agrees to go out with him.  Later she turned out that she uses drugs. Gideon has flushed all her drugs down the toilet. She blames the tough modelling world for why she started using and ends up promising Gideon to quit. Just to be on the safe side, Gideon threatens Aaron (Jack Campbell) into not selling Siobhan any more speed.  Hungry for drugs, Siobhan comes to the model agency looking pale and worn out. Gretchen (Sonja Williams) gives her some drugs and orders her not to stop using as she'll scare away the customers if she comes to work looking like this. When Gideon later finds Siobhan stoned, he dumps her. Aaron finds Siobhan drowning her sorrows in alcohol. She robs his pockets and takes some of his pills. Shortly after, Siobhan and a panic-stricken Aaron dumps her off at the nearest ER and flees.

In the last episode whereon is she, Siobhan survives her drug overdose and recovers at the hospital but a furious Gideon holds Aaron responsible and punches him. Gideon is delighted when Siobhan emerges from her coma and he hopes she'll get back together with him and quit the drugs for good. But Siobhan has a different idea: she's accepting a six month modelling contract in Japan. They part as good friends but Gideon is left shattered.
